Our Story
Maxey Farms
In 1956 George Maxey and his brother Lauren purchased a 160 acre dairy farm. George later purchased his brothers share and became sole owner of Maxey Farms. In 2004, George purchased a neighboring farm expanding to 280 acres of irrigated ground. George’s son, Jeff Maxey has dedicated his life to the farm. He has been the farm manager for 40 years. Our farm is the source of our cattle feed. All the alfalfa/grass hay and corn silage we feed our cattle is raised right at home
Valentine Holsteins
When George purchased the farm he also purchased the dairy. Valentine Holsteins is one of the oldest registered Holstein herds in the US. In 1900, Valentine Holsteins became the 122nd registered herd when Carl Henry bought his first milking cows. George and Jeff grew the herd to 45 milking head while producing many breed leading cows. In 2009, we made the tough decision to move our milking cattle to another dairy. Jeff retains ownership of all of the Valentine Holstein cattle and we continue to raise the heifers up to calving. When the heifers are ready to calve we move them to our partner, Sugar Hill Dairy, who milks the cows.
Milkman Beef Company
I, Cameron Maxey, bought my first set of beef cows in 2018. These Belted Galloway/ Wagyu cross cattle are the foundation of our wagyu beef program. The Wagyu beef has lived up to the hype producing outstanding marbling and flavor. Over the years I have added Angus and Red Angus cattle to my heard. Milkman Beef Company was formed with the goal of providing customers with the best locally raised beef in Colorado.
